Hwange Central Ward 5 residents have been notified that the area has been earmarked for a borehole drilling project under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the councillor’s office has announced.
In a notice issued to residents, the Ward 5 councillor’s office confirmed that progress had been made following a community consultation process led by the Office of the Member of Parliament for Hwange Central, working together with the CDF Committee.
“Following an extensive community consultation process… residents were given an opportunity to participate in a collective decision‑making process to promote transparency, accountability and inclusive development,” the notice read.
During consultations, residents initially proposed two possible sites within Empumalanga. However, after further deliberations and guidance from the Ward Development Committee, a third alternative site was agreed upon.
“The agreed site for the borehole is Empumalanga Clinic. The borehole infrastructure will be installed within the clinic premises to ensure security and sustainability,” the notice stated.
The project will supply 24‑hour water access to the clinic through internal connections, while the wider community will access water through controlled external points.
According to the councillor’s office, the borehole will be jointly administered by Empumalanga Clinic, the Hwange Local Board and community leadership structures through the Office of the Ward Councillor.
“The project will remain a community asset under local authority oversight for purposes of maintenance, security and long‑term sustainability, in line with council strategic development plans,” the notice added.
Authority to drill the borehole within the clinic premises has been formally granted through council processes, and implementation is expected to begin once final arrangements with the contractor are completed.
The Office of the Ward Councillor expressed appreciation to Ward 5 residents, the Ward Development Committee and the Office of the Member of Parliament for their cooperation and commitment to community development.
