A 54-year-old Harare man has appeared in court facing allegations of attempting to murder his former employee, whom he accuses of stealing and selling his mining equipment before disappearing without notice.
Nkosiyabo Moyo appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa charged with attempted murder. He was granted bail and is being represented by lawyer Mr Claude Bare.
Prosecutor Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti told the court that in October 2025, the complainant had been employed by Moyo as an artisanal miner at Stories Mine in Mazowe. Moyo had reportedly entrusted him with managing operations in his absence.
However, the court heard that the complainant allegedly sold all the mining equipment and fled without informing his employer.
According to the State, on February 10, 2026, at approximately 7pm, Moyo tracked the complainant to Helensvale squatter camp in Borrowdale.
It is alleged that Moyo, armed with a pistol, approached the complainant while he was asleep inside a shack. The complainant reportedly fled after sensing danger, but Moyo allegedly fired several shots in his direction.
One of the bullets struck the complainant in the left thigh.
The matter has been remanded to a later date as investigations continue.
