Zimbabwe has approved a 10-year rotational schedule of venues for its annual Independence Day celebrations, with provinces set to take turns hosting the national event under a structured devolution framework.

Skills Audit and Development Minister Jenfan Muswere announced the decision during a post-Cabinet media briefing, saying the arrangement is aimed at promoting inclusive national development and regional participation.

He said the new hosting sequence aligns with the country's devolution agenda, ensuring that all provinces benefit from the economic and social opportunities associated with the national commemorations.

"Going forward, and in line with already-announced next venue selection criteria and the devolution agenda, Masvingo Province will host the 2027 (47th) Independence anniversary celebrations," Muswere said.

According to the approved schedule, Masvingo Province will host in 2027, followed by Matabeleland North Province in 2028 and Mashonaland East Province in 2029.

Other confirmed venues include Mashonaland West in 2030, Harare in 2031, Bulawayo in 2032, Mashonaland Central in 2033, Manicaland in 2034 and Midlands in 2035.

Officials say the rotational system is designed to decentralise national events, boost local economies, and promote equitable development across all regions.

The Independence Day celebrations remain one of Zimbabwe's most significant national events, marking the country's attainment of sovereignty on 18 April 1980.
