Former Finance Minister and lawyer Tendai Biti addressed Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom on Saturday at a public meeting focused on the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB 3), urging citizens to remain engaged in defending constitutionalism, human rights and the rule of law.

The meeting, hosted by the UK Chapter of the Constitution Defenders Forum (CDF) Federation at Leicester University's John Foster Hall, drew Zimbabweans from across the UK and proceeded without incident.

Biti, who serves as the National Convener of the CDF Federation, said the gathering had been organised in response to CAB 3 and to facilitate discussions on governance, constitutional issues and citizens' rights.

Addressing attendees, Biti stressed that the CDF Federation was not a political party but a civic movement committed to protecting constitutional values.

"It is a civic movement dedicated to upholding the Constitution, protecting human rights, and advocating for the rule of law principles that belong to all Zimbabweans regardless of political affiliation," he said.

The former Finance Minister also encouraged Zimbabweans living abroad to use their time in the diaspora to acquire new skills and expertise that could contribute to Zimbabwe's future development.

He outlined his vision of a country where opportunities are available to all citizens, institutions function effectively and systems operate efficiently to ensure equitable access to prosperity.

Organisers reported a strong turnout, with several attendees registering as members of the CDF Federation during the event. Discussions highlighted the growing significance of Zimbabwe's diaspora community, noting that a substantial portion of the country's voting-age population now resides outside Zimbabwe and continues to contribute significantly to the economy through remittances.

The Leicester meeting forms part of broader engagements by Zimbabweans in the diaspora on constitutional, governance and development issues as debate over the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 continues.
