A Zimbabwean citizen who has been independently tracking businessman Wicknell Chivayo's public donations claims the businessman has pledged or donated cash and gifts worth approximately US$43.9 million across 120 events since March 2024.

According to the analysis, which includes Chivayo's recent US$1 million offer to Chimurenga music legend Thomas Mapfumo, religious organisations and church leaders accounted for the largest share of the reported donations.

The tracker estimates that church-related beneficiaries received nearly half of the total value of the gifts and cash distributed over the period.

Among individual recipients, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi was identified as the largest beneficiary, having reportedly received more than US$4 million in cash and gifts.

The analysis also indicates that 10 ZANU PF provincial chairpersons collectively received cash and gifts valued at approximately US$2.9 million.

Chivayo, who has become known for publicly announcing donations on social media, has in recent months gifted luxury vehicles, cash and other assets to musicians, churches, sports personalities, traditional leaders, ruling party officials and various organisations.

His latest widely publicised offer was a pledge of US$1 million to veteran musician Thomas Mapfumo to perform at a private event, an offer that has generated significant public debate. Mapfumo has not publicly responded to the proposal.

The figures contained in the analysis have not been independently verified, and Chivayo has not publicly commented on the tracker or its methodology. The analysis is based on publicly announced gifts and offers made by the businessman since March 2024.
