A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer has been arrested after he was captured on video in a heated confrontation with a City of Harare security officer.
The incident, which circulated widely on social media, shows the uniformed police officer shouting obscenities and hurling insults at the council official while allegedly threatening to assault him.
The confrontation reportedly occurred after City of Harare security personnel attempted to impound the officer's vehicle for allegedly violating parking regulations.
The video sparked public concern over the conduct of the police officer and the apparent confrontation between members of the two law enforcement bodies.
ZRP confirmed the arrest, saying the officer was facing both criminal and disciplinary proceedings.
"Reference is made to an incident that went viral on social media involving a ZRP police officer and a City of Harare security personnel. The public is advised that the constable involved was arrested and is now facing both criminal and disciplinary charges," police said.
The officer's arrest comes as authorities continue to face scrutiny over the conduct of law enforcement personnel and the enforcement of municipal regulations.
The case is expected to proceed through both the criminal justice system and the police's internal disciplinary process.
