Man fined US$140 for carrying Okapi knife in Zimbabwe

A 31-year-old Bulawayo man has been fined US$140 after he was found in possession of an Okapi knife in Old Lobengula.
Gino Murape was convicted of possession of a prohibited weapon by Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube after pleading guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Ncube fined Murape US$140 or the equivalent amount in Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG). In default of payment, he will serve two months in prison.
Prosecuting, Catherine Kuzu told the court that on July 10 at about 11pm, Constable Simon Tivugare was conducting patrols and stop-and-search operations in Old Lobengula.
"When they searched Murape they found him in possession of an Okapi knife," Kuzu said.
The court heard that Murape was subsequently arrested and the knife seized as an exhibit.
He was convicted and sentenced accordingly.
