Zimbabwean arrested for manufacturing fake SA IDs

A ZIMBABWEAN national has been arrested in Hillbrow, South Africa, following a police operation targeting an alleged syndicate involved in recruiting people seeking South African smart identity cards and forged bank statements and payslips.
Police said they received information on Wednesday, September 9, about a man allegedly involved in recruiting individuals who required the documents.
Following verification of the information, police conducted an operation in the Hillbrow policing precinct, resulting in the seizure of six South African smart identity cards, 22 blank smart identity cards, a laptop and a smart card printing machine.
A Zimbabwean national was subsequently arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
Police have urged members of the public with information about suspected illegal activities in their communities to contact the SAPS Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or report anonymously through the MySAPS App.
The allegations against the suspect have not yet been tested in court.
