Local Zimbabweans and visitors from the diaspora have been by the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe credited for the fully booked hotels and lodges.

The association's President Tich Hwingwiri said the majority of visitors are locals and Zimbabweans who are in the country to visit their families.

Safari Association of Zimbabwe President Emmanuel Fundira said tour operators are busy taking bookings for various activities which include boat cruises, bungee jumping and game viewing, among others, adding that special rates being offered for locals also attract large numbers.

He said this year's festive season has seen an increase of at least 30 per cent in hotel occupancy from the 15th of this month to early January.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) says it is satisfied with the level of business at most resort towns throughout the country which has seen local Zimbabweans contributing 70 percent of the hotel bookings in Kariba, Victoria Falls, Eastern Highlands and Masvingo.

ZTA spokesperson Sugar Chagonda says most of the hotel operators have recorded growth in occupancy rate because of promotional packages put in place by operators and transport operators.
