THE Meteorological Service Department has predicted more heavy rains across the country in the next few days, heightening fears of more destructive floods.
Hundreds of people from Tsholotsho and Tokwe-Murkosi in Masvingo were left homeless when heavy rains washed away their homesteads last month.
With the ground now super-saturated with water, experts have said any rain that falls will be instantly turned to run-off.
"This likely to cause floods that are worser than the disasters we have experienced so far," said a weather expert could not be named for professional reasons.
The Met Department in its weekly forecast, predicted rains accompanied by thunderstorms.
"In Matabeleland South and North, Bulawayo, Masvingo, and Manicaland it should be mostly cloudy with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The storms may be heavy in places due to the heat that we have been experiencing lately and morning rain is possible in places. It should be warm during the day becoming mild overnight," read the forecast.
The department said the northern parts of the country should also brace for heavy rains.
The police, Civil Protection Unit (CPU) and the Met department have always members of the public not to try to cross flooded rivers or shelter under tall objects during a thunderstorm it might result in causalities.
