Ambrose Mutinhiri loses property over debt

ASPIRING vice president, retired brigadier-general Ambrose Mutinhiri, has lost property worth thousands of dollars after it was attached by the Deputy Sherriff. CBZ Bank had to seek legal recourse to recover an undisclosed amount of money after Mutinhiri failed to pay the debt.
Two months ago Mutinhiri, who is the current Member of Parliament for Marondera West, threw his hat into the ring for the vacant third vice president post. The post was left vacant following the death early last year of John Nkomo. Mutinhiri recently expressed confidence that he would be the third vice president of Zimbabwe since he is the most senior former PF ZAPU cadre, a pre-requisite to landing the position.
His bid has not been without opposition as his claims as the most senior person from former ZAPU members have been rubbished by some of his colleagues who argue that Mutinhiri lost both his position in the military ranks of ZIPRA and his membership to the parent party, ZAPU when he left to be one of the founder members of the militant Front for the Liberation of Zimbabwe (Frolizi) in 1972.
Frolizi was formed by disgruntled ZAPU and ZANU members with the late James Chikerema as leader. Mutinhiri, however, recently shrugged off allegations that he was once a member of Frolizi. Several aspirants have since joined the race for the third vice presidency, among them Kembo Mohadi, the Minister of Home Affairs. Mutinhiri's firm, Leo Minerals and Resources (Private) limited, is however, not as confident.
According to a recent press notice by the office of the Deputy Sherrif, Mutinhiri's several properties including farm equipment and vehicles registered in the name of the company had to be sold because of debts owed to the bank. Leo Minerals and Resources (Private) Limited was listed as a first respondent. Mutinhiri was listed as the second respondent, while his socialite daughter, Vimbai Mutinhiri, who once starred in the Big Brother Africa Reality Television show was listed as the third respondent. The case number is HC 10487/13.
Two top of the range tractors, an All-Wheel-Drive US made John Deere 5 400n model and an Italian made model, New Holland 56-40, went under the hammer by public auction at number 339, Longlands, Marondera industrial site. An official at the site confirmed that the tractors were all sold to the highest bidders on Saturday, but declined to disclose the amount they each fetched.
"Those items were sold here on Saturday by public sale. I am, however, not at liberty to disclose how much they fetched," the official said.
Also sold was a four wheel tractor trailer, a boom sprayer, several three inch irrigation pipes and a strides marker. A deposit of $200 was required to be able to bid for other items while US$500 was needed to bid for the tractors.
