The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) on Friday confirmed the resignation of its Director General, Eltah Nengomasha, bringing her tenure with the regulator to an unexpected close.

Although Nengomasha had been serving a three-month notice period due to run until October, her departure came earlier than anticipated, sources revealed.

She was appointed substantive Director General in March 2023, but her tenure was not without turbulence. In March 2024, she was suspended for misconduct before being reinstated a year later.

In her farewell message, Nengomasha expressed gratitude to her colleagues and the media for their support. "Sport is richer because of the synergies created," she said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to have served my country at the realm of sports administration. I wish the sector all the best in its endeavours."

The SRC, in an earlier statement, credited Nengomasha with strengthening governance structures and enhancing stakeholder engagement during her leadership.

Director of Legal and Corporate Services, Peter Mudzimiri, has been appointed Acting Director General with immediate effect. The commission said the process to recruit a substantive replacement will be announced in due course.
