Harare council registers vendors

Harare City Council on Sunday began registering vendors trading in the Central Business District by issuing trading cards.
To trade at all the open markets one pays $1,25 per day which is inclusive of value added tax (VAT).
In a notice council said "The earliest bird catches the fattest warm. Be early and get the best vending spot".
"Harare City Council is encouraging all members of the informal sector trading in the Central Business District to go the designated vending sites for the issuance of trading space and automated vending sites.
It was business as usual for vendors in the city centre on Friday, the date the government said it would unleash riot police to drive them out.
"The issuance of the card began today and is expected to be on until all the members of the informal trading sector are electronically registered.
"Unregistered traders will not be allowed to do business in Harare. The issuance of the cards will be rolled out to suburban trading sites in due course".
