The High Court has upheld the state's appeal against the release on bail of a maid who allegedly stole 1,5 million rand worth of money in pounds and euros from her South African employer before fleeing the country.
Justice Garainesu Mawadze who presided over the matter in which Constance Mujeyi (28), her cousins Watson and Mathew Laiton are facing money laundering charges ruled that they should remain in custody until their trial commences as there was overwhelming evidence linking the trio to the commission of the offence.
He added that the three are a flight risk.
The latest order comes after prosecutor Fortunate Kachidza filed an appeal at the High Court challenging the release of the accused persons on US$100 bail each.
The state invoked Section 121 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which empowers the state to refuse the admission of suspects and accused person to bail pending the prosecution of an appeal.
