Spirit medium detects remains of the 2008 violence victims

A 19 year old girl from Epworth in Harare believed to be possessed by the spirit of a deceased relative has reportedly led her family to a mass grave in the Nyameni area of Marondera, where five skulls were exhumed.

Zimbabwe Peace Project reported that Murufu family was ed by one of their own to the site of the mass grave where the remains of the family member who went missing in 2008 were believed to be interred. The five skulls and other remains exhumed from the site a marshy area near Nyameni School are reported to be in the custody of the police.

The Murufus have indicated that they will continue excavating since the spirit speaking through the possessed young girl has indicated that its remains have still not been unearthed. While some locals in Marondera believe that these are remains of victims from the liberation struggle from as far back as 1971, others are convinced that the remains are of the victims of the 2008 political violence.

Over 200 MDC supporters were reportedly killed by suspected Zanu-PF supporters in the run up to the 2008 June presidential runoff elections while several others were displaced.
