Mugabe to witness handover of power in Tanzania

African Union chairperson President Robert Mugabe has left Harare for Dar es Salaam where he joins other leaders for the inauguration of newly-elected Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli.
Dr Magufuli of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party garnered 8,882 million votes, which is equivalent to 58,46 percent of total votes cast.
His nearest rival Edward Lowassa of the Chadema, who headed a coalition of the opposition, collected 6,072million votes.
There were nine presidential candidates, but in reality it was a two-man race.
Magufuli's running mates Amia Suluhu Hassan becomes Tanzania's first vice president.
56-year old Magufuli is a graduate of chemistry from Dar es Salaam University.
He undertook his presidential campaign under the focus of fighting corruption and plea for unity among his countrymen.
He has served as Member of Parliament for the past 20 years representing his Chato constituency in the gold mining district of Geita in northwestern Tanzania near Lake Victoria.
Dr Magufuli becomes Tanzania's 5th president after the founding father of Tanzania, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Dr Ali Hassan Mwinyi, Dr Benjamin Mkapa and outgoing President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
