Today the 31st of October marks the last day of the cancer awareness month at which point we have noted and appreciated a devoted campaign by our fellow citizens in the fight against the disease.

MDC would however like to call for a sustained campaign against the scourge that continues to claim more lives year in and year out.

Statistics of cancer mortalities are disturbing and we believe that in our efforts to eliminate the disease and save lives, the campaigns must not only be limited to the month of October but must be carried out each and every day until the affliction is overcome.

We however bemoan the state of our country's health sector which we believe is extensively contributing to the significant disabilities, suffering and deaths caused by cancer in Zimbabwe.

We are cognisant of the fact that the current government has not done enough in terms of providing effective programmes for early diagnosis, medicines and equipment for cancer treatment and management.

As a democratic party we believe in the values of equality, fairness and better life for all which the Zanu PF government has absolutely failed to deliver.

The ill health of the citizenry has hindered the nation from realizing development and if Zanu PF remains in power the country's situation will not improve.

We reiterate our call to the people that they must take advantage of the ongoing Biometric Voter Registration exercise.

Every eligible citizen should partake in next year's elections in the fight to remove this inept government from power.
