Vice President Kembo Mohadi's recent visit to Mozambique is set to reinforce the longstanding diplomatic and historical ties between Zimbabwe and its eastern neighbour.

Arriving in Maputo on Sunday evening, Vice President Mohadi's first official engagement was a high-level meeting with Mozambican Prime Minister, Her Excellency Maria Benvinda Levy. The closed-door discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Vice President Mohadi highlighted the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations, which dates back to the liberation struggle.

"Our discussions covered a range of issues, including how Mozambique supported Zimbabwe during its fight for independence and how we continue to collaborate today. We agreed that while we've achieved political independence - with functioning parliaments, judiciaries, and executives - economic independence remains elusive. We must add value to our natural resources before exporting them to ensure better returns," said Mohadi.

Peace and security were also central to the dialogue, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to regional stability.

"Development cannot happen without peace and tranquillity. Zimbabwe and Mozambique have always worked together to safeguard peace, especially in areas like Cabo Delgado," he added.

Vice President Mohadi's visit to Mozambique is part of a broader four-nation tour that has included Angola, Zambia, and Tanzania. The tour aims to strengthen regional partnerships and honour the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle.
