Zimbabwe's national cricket team, the Chevrons, fought hard but fell to a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in the second and final One Day International (ODI) at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, handing the visitors a 2-0 series win.

Batting first, Zimbabwe posted a competitive 277 for 7, with opener Ben Curran anchoring the innings with 79 from 95 balls. Sikandar Raza added a fluent 59 off 55 deliveries, while Clive Madande chipped in with a brisk 36 late on.

Sri Lanka, however, paced their chase superbly, reaching the target of 278 in the final over. Pathum Nissanka starred with a match-winning century, guiding his side through a tense finish despite Zimbabwe's breakthroughs at both ends of the innings.

Stand-in captain Sean Williams rued missed opportunities. "The series could have gone differently. It could have been 1-1. Today we missed an opportunity to be more aggressive against the off-spinner in the middle overs. The small chances make a big difference at the end of the day," he said.

Sri Lanka coach Sanath Jayasuriya praised his team's discipline. "We worked hard in both innings, but I think the difference was in doing the basics right," he noted.

The Chevrons were competitive in both matches but faltered in crucial moments, leaving Sri Lanka to celebrate a clean sweep. Focus now shifts to the three-match T20 International (T20I) series, which begins on Wednesday at Harare Sports Club.
