A 67-year-old Mangwe man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping his 45-year-old ex-girlfriend before raping her seven times, police said yesterday.
The Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, said the incident occurred between 16 and 23 May at Mdlongwa Village under Chief Wasi.
"Our preliminary investigations indicate that the man and the complainant were lovers before they broke up. On 16 May, the man went to a homestead where the complainant was employed as a maid and pleaded with the woman to return to his home but she refused and an argument ensued," said Insp Dzirutwe.
The man then threatened to assault the complainant before ordering the woman to pack her bags.
Insp Dzirutwe said the man force-marched the woman to his home where he held her for five days during which he raped her.
"On arrival at his home, the man detained the complainant for five days during which he raped her seven times," said Insp Dzirutwe.
The complainant's sister was alerted by the woman's employer and she reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the man.
Insp Dzirutwe said the man will appear in court soon facing rape and kidnapping charges.
