AN Inyathi man was convicted and sentenced to six months in jail for allegedly biting a police officer on the thigh during a beer binge dispute.
Blessing Moyo (21), from Madala Mines compound appeared before Inyathi magistrate Mr Stephen Ndlovu and was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct in a public place and assaulting or resisting arrest by a police officer.
Prosecuting, Mr Winken Ngozo said on 2 November at 7pm Moyo was drinking beer with his friends at Joe's Cocktail Bar.
"At around 10pm Moyo became drunk and engaged in a disorderly conduct. He threatened to assault other patrons. It is during this time that he had a misunderstanding with one of the people in the bar. Police officers who were on patrol told Moyo that he was under arrest for his actions. This did not go well for Moyo who immediately bit Constable Edmore Sakala on the thigh and left him crying for help," he said.
It is alleged that other police officers who were on duty arrested Moyo and took him to the police station.
"Moyo suffers from an STI. He was tested at the clinic after he started acting in a funny manner in jail. They took him to a hospital to get pills but there was no medication resulting in him being remanded in custody in that condition.
Sakala was not pleased with the fact that he was bitten on the thigh by a sick man," Mr Ngoko said.
