Gwanda protesters freed on bail

TWO Gwanda activists, who allegedly taunted police officers labelling them as corrupt ahead of last Friday's foiled protest march, have been granted free bail and remanded to next Tuesday for trial.
Oscar Zhou and Leonard Ndlovu denied the charge when they appeared before magistrate, Sheila Nazombe on Monday.
They were arrested last Thursday for allegedly distributing flyers urging residents to take part in a National Electoral Reform Agenda-organised demonstration, which was eventually quashed by police.
The State alleges that when police officers discouraged city vendors from reading the flyers, Zhou and Ndlovu intervened and labelled the law enforcement agents corrupt.
The suspects also allegedly demanded the release of the other vendors, leading police to charge them with obstructing the course of justice.
They are being represented by Nqobani Nyathi of Abammeli Human Rights Lawyers Network.
