Dr President Mnangagwa sets new world record of cabinet reshuffles!

04 Dec 2017 at 05:39hrs | Views
Just when I thought we had seen it all in terms of shocking cabinet reshuffles; with Mr Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma of South Africa miles ahead in this political comrades marathon, then ED joins the Club!

JZ has made about 11 cabinet reshuffles in under 8 years, and this means on average a Minister of the Zuma administration has served almost 8.7 months in a year! The craziest record of them all was in December 2015 when he appointed a Finance Minister only for 3 days inclusive of a weekend, which was hardly a full working day in office. At least the Minister was sworn in!

Then enter ED of Zimbabwe. We already had come to know of a coup which is not a coup, resignation speech which was not about resignation; and now we have a cabinet which is not a cabinet to be sworn today. We now have a world record of its own kind in which a president reshuffles a cabinet he has not even sworn into office!

Three Ministers have already been fired from office before even assuming the very office! As if that is not enough shocking news, the president is his own deputy two times. He shall be the President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President all at the same time until after Congress in a "few weeks" which we know will turn out to be until after elections in a "few months" time.

As an independent and self-appointed presidential advisor available to your office Dr President, may I say if you can appoint Ministers and fire them before assuming their offices; then there is absolutely nothing wrong with appointing Vice Presidents and then firing them in a few weeks' time after so called Extra-Ordinary Congress.

Or, we now have a moment when politics is no longer a game of numbers because being "majority party" if it still has same meaning as we used to know, one would expect that you have all the numbers at your disposal and you are spoilt with choice to fill all available vacancies even in the presidium. I mean with reasonably fresh blood, the proverbial new brooms that sweep cleaner.

Anyway, such inconsistencies are just disastrous for any prospects of rebuilding the economy as soon as is possible. One wonders what can stop Dr President to append his signature in a bill to make it a law today, and then repeal it tomorrow with some executive powers? It can be legislation on electoral reforms, indigenisation and investment frameworks to mention a few.

We indeed must have everything to fear including fear itself! The point of departure through the deadwood cabinet has already vindicated some of our perspectives as commentators and even conspiracy theorists. The country has been up in flames for many years, and the deadwood cabinet will fuel and literally burn it up to real ashes now.

Mind you Dr President, if you are the boss then we are your kings. As the electorate we have the de facto powers to hire and fire presidents under normal circumstances. As long there is no shocking somersaults on your promise to upheld elections as scheduled, you shall know who the real bosses are.
