Those wishing Zimbabwe the worst are outcasts

Some Zimbabweans are really an amazing lot. After the announcement of the results of the just-ended harmonised elections, some could be heard wishing the country the worst in the days to come. Right thinking Zimbabweans were obviously taken aback by these individuals who relish their own suffering. Why would a Zimbabwean wish the worst for his or her own country? These are the same people peddling falsehoods from the figment of their imaginations.

The agenda of these people is very clear - they want to whip the people's emotions in order to cause alarm and despondency.

It is these same people who are making false allegations of fuel price increases. These misguided elements are working in cahoots with some sections of the media that are publishing these falsehoods.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has since dispelled media reports that fuel prices have gone up.

Some sections of the media in a bid to cause alarm and despondency following the announcement of the election results, claimed  fuel prices had been increased but the reality on the ground is that no such increases have been effected.

Zera chief executive Engineer Gloria Magombo described the reports as mischievous and bent on instigating unnecessary and unjustified fuel increases not related to cost.

"Zera views such reports as trying to instigate unnecessary price hikes not at all related to any changes in the cost drivers of fuel and are not in anyway linked to the outcome of the just-ended harmonised elections," she said.

Engineer Magombo said a survey conducted by the regulatory authority revealed that the prices of fuel at service stations had not changed and Zera did not expect any upward movement in the price of fuel especially taking into cognisance the fact that the international crude oil prices have generally remained stable.

We wonder what these individuals publishing and spreading false information want to achieve.

These are the same people who have been writing unfounded stories of an impending economic downturn following the announcement of the poll results.

These outcasts are in fact working with renegades such as Mr Roy Bennett who have been calling for mass boycotts to make this country ungovernable.

What these people seem not to appreciate is that Zimbabweans are now wiser because they now know what is meant to benefit them and what is not. They were fooled in 2008 and they will not allow a repeat of this. The imperialists and their proxies have been defeated and any attempts to hoodwink people into engaging in activities meant to sabotage the country's economy are therefore bound to fail.

The people have through their vote buried the enemy once and for all and are now spurred to develop themselves and their country.

Everybody is now geared to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country except for the few undesirable elements that are mourning the fact that their imperialist masters have been shut out. We want at this juncture to urge Zimbabweans to guard jealously the prevailing peace which is conducive to development.

The focus now should be on finding ways of moving the country forward as a united people. The country has gone through very difficult economic phases and we want to believe this has equipped us as a nation with skills to overcome similar challenges that we might encounter in future.

There is absolutely no reason why we cannot turn Zimbabwe into a country of milk and honey given the abundant natural resources ready to be exploited.

The issue of elections should now be behind us as we forge ahead to make Zimbabwe a prosperous country that should be an envy of many in the shortest possible time.

We want to bequeath to future generations a country they will be proud of. What we need to appreciate as a people is that there is no country that we can call home except Zimbabwe.
