The co-option of Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara into the Zanu-PF Central Committee for Manicaland province will be formally addressed at the party's next Politburo meeting, party secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa said yesterday.
Dr Tungwarara was recently recommended for co-option by the Zanu-PF Manicaland Provincial Coordinating Committee. He is expected to fill the vacancy left by Dorothy Mabika, who stepped down earlier this year and was later elected chairlady of the Manicaland Women's League.
The nomination was proposed by provincial Youth League member Victoria Saunyama and seconded by Makoni District Coordinating Committee chairman Kudzi Chipanga. Dr Tungwarara has accepted the recommendation and pledged to support the party's initiatives in the province.
Speaking at a press briefing in Harare, Mutsvangwa sought to clarify reports of confusion regarding Central Committee nominations in Manicaland.
"The correct position is that the party takes serious respect for the deliberations of the provincial leadership of Manicaland," he said, noting that the province is the country's second-most populous after Harare.
He added that the Politburo would resolve any perceived uncertainties in the same manner previously applied to Harare province.
"For anyone who has anxieties about what is going on, hold your gun; the Politburo will meet, and the matter will be considered. A final decision will be delivered on the Central Committee nomination for Manicaland," Mutsvangwa said.
