Mobile phone service provider, NetOne has with immediate effect terminated its contract with one of its agents, Zellco Cellular.
Zellco was one of two agents contracted to deal with post-paid clients on behalf of the State-owned mobile operator.
Among its functions were to sign up new contract line subscribers and bill the customers.
The company would then get a commission for the services. Reasons for termination of the deal could not be immediately established, as efforts to get comments from either NetOne or Zellco were fruitless.
In a text message to its post-paid customers, NetOne said it had cancelled Zellco's contract effective Wednesday.
Read the SMS: "From 06/04/11 NetOne has cancelled Zellco's service contract. "Customers will now pay their bills directly to NetOne. There will be no loss of service."
The mobile service provider has over one million subscribers, with pre-paid customers making up the bulk of the numbers.
NetOne is currently battling to recover over US$30 million owed by more than 10 000 of its post-paid customers, some of whom were being serviced by Zellco.
Zellco has been a NetOne agent for over a decade.
Termination of the service means that Firstel Private Limited remains the only agent contracted to deal with Net One post-paid subscribers.
