South African based Zimbabwean Rhumba lovers are set for a night never to forget when three of Zimbabwe's best Rhumba artists clash in Johannesburg on Saturday night.
Allen Ndoda and The Challengers, Themba Mathe with the Sound Blasters clash against arguably Zimbabwe's best up coming rhumba stars Mlambos Express Band. The show pencilled to start at 7 pm at The Safari Bar in Beria Johannesburg will see a repeat of the clash of the giants show that was held in Diepsloot Johannesburg North four years ago.
In the run up to the FIFA 2010 World Cup, Zimbabwean music promoters set up the stage for Allan Ndoda against Madalaboy another Zimbabwean rhumba ace in a show that was a sale out at Diepsloot Community Hall leaving scores of revellers locked out of the venue as it could not take any more people. Several other Zimbabwean musicians have since that day been thronging South Africa to stage music shows but never has a crowd as big as that one been realised in a music show of Zimbabweans in South Africa. Greats like Aleck Macheso, Thomas Mapfumo and even Oliver Mtukudzi have graced the South African music stages but to date the crowd at Clash of the Giants has not been met.
Come August 2, tomorrow, Clash of the giants 2 promoters have promised an even larger crowd and much bigger music concept.
"This is not going to be a small show, Allen Ndoda and Boyoyo are the Legends and they are Crowd Pullers and many People are Hungry for Mlambos I guarantee you this will be bigger than what we saw at Diepsloot," said a spokesperson for the promoters popularly known as amongst the rhumba as Tsholotsho Poison.
PK Ndlovu, Allen Ndoda's manager assured fans of a show much bigger than the one seen four years ago.
"Allen Ndoda has since recorded two scorching albums and introduced a new dance routine and new dancers that will get the crowd asking for more," said PK.
Thabani Ndlovu manager of Mlambosi Express Band invited Zimbabwean rhumba lovers to come and see "something they have never seen before". Mlambos Express Band has taken the music scenes by storm claiming rare spaces like appearing on an hour long feature on South Africa Television Soweto TV. The band has also never had a weekend of rest since the release of their album AmaFacebook and arguably the best produced music DVD at the moment Sidlala Ngonyawo.
"People have seen Mlambos on TV and smaller stages, come Saturday they are in for a sight of a life time. We want to show them what Zimbabwean music can produce," said Ndlovu.
Mlambos Express Band, boasts of the country's number 1 rhumba dancer and choreographer "Godolude" who is being demanded by most Zimbabwean groups but prefers to remain loyal to the Bulilima Mangwe founded music outfit. Ably supported by the legendary SaMangwe and Mfana KaNyoni those who have been following the group know very well what is at stake for them and certainly know the night will be too short.
Show organisers have assured fans of very tight security at the venue which will not compromise what promises to be one of Zimbabweans in South Africa's greatest night. To ice up the show, the three music groups will team up in a hit song "Unity" which encourages unity amongst Zimbabwean musicians and calls for an end to piracy of music. The song which is expected to hit the Zimbabwean music industry back home before the end of the year is one for great heights in the form of legendary Leonard Dembo's Chitekete.
The show which will cost R100 for dance hall and R200 for VIP seating is expected to be continued in Zimbabwe before the end of the year.
