THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) is demanding full fee payment before students can register for the second semester this year.

This comes at a time when the country is battling with a liquidity crunch and most companies are on the verge of collapse.

Students who spoke to a local daily on Friday said the university demanded full fees before they could commence with the registration process.

A number of university and college students across the country have been forced to drop studies due to high tuition fees ranging from anything between $450 to $1 200 per semester, depending on the diploma or degree programme.

The government scrapped the grant system about a decade ago due to the political and economic crisis.

When contacted for comment, Nust's information and public relations director Felix Moyo said he had not been around for the past few weeks and would consult with the bursar's department.

"I will first consult the bursar and get back to you as I was not around for the past few weeks," Moyo said.
