Bulawayo councilor's education credentials shocker

Bulawayo residents are led by councilors armed with standard 6 and brick mouldering as their top credentials, Bulawayo24 can reveal.

Standard 6 grade was held in high esteem during the Rhodesia era.

The majority of councilors, six of them where born between 1929 and 1940. The youngest was born in 1973.

Dr John Ferguson, physician by profession and based at Galan House is said to be born 11/06/29 while James Sithole was born on 6/4/73.

Six councilors were born between 1929-40, four (1940-50, six (1950-60) , three (1960-70) and just two were born after 1970.

 This is according to information included in the council March minutes which a few residents had access to.

The councilors were voted in by residents in the 2008 harmonized elections.

On academic qualifications, Ferguson and Paul Malaba who lectures at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) are the most learned among the 20 councilors whose qualifications were published.

Ferguson, a ward five councilors that covers Hillside, Eloana, Four Winds, Newton, Morningside, Greenhill among other boost of MB, CHB, and FCPCP(Z).

Malaba, (ward four) for Burnside, Ascot, Willsgrove, Glencoe, Lochview hold a BA in Mathematics and post graduate diploma in vocational training.

Three councilors have standard six - Phinias Ndlovu of ward 14, Mackenzie Sibanda (ward 8) and lot Siziba of ward 13.

Sibanda was born on 22/06/1933 while Siziba 11/11/38.

One councilor, Thembani Khoza (ward 14) boost of Cookery qualification and Netball Empire Certificate. He is also said to be a sale representative.

Some councilors gave their qualifications as drivers, brick moulders, retired radio technicians and self employed traders.

In 2010, councilors shocked residents when they refused to be served with biscuits during their meetings and demanded sandwiches.
