A driver who gave his vehicle to an unlicensed person was on Tuesday banned from driving while his colleague was jailed for six months.

Christopher Ndlovu (21) from Emganwini in Bulawayo pleaded guilty to charges of authorising Vusa Ncube (21) to drive his vehicle without a licence.

Ncube also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence when the two appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Thobekile Mkosana.

Ndlovu was sentenced to three months in jail wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence. He was further banned from driving any vehicle for the next six months. Ncube got an effective six months in jail.

The court heard that on June 30 this year, Ndlovu was driving a Toyota Hiace vehicle along the Bulawayo-Tsholotsho road. He then gave the vehicle to Ncube to drive without a licence.

Policemen who were in a commuter omnibus noticed the reckless manner in which Ncube was driving and decided to stop the vehicle, leading to the arrest of the two.

Callington Dhliwayo prosecuted the case.
