The School of Mines in Bulawayo yesterday sent away more than half of its close to 100 students for non-payment of fees.

Some students mostly beginners who had paid a deposit of $1 700 towards required, were among those barred from attending lessons and chased from the school premises until the balance of $100 was paid.

At least 30 students in their third and final year were ordered away and told to pay all $2 081 fees charged per semester by next week or risk being deferred by a year.
