Huge turnout at Skyz Metro FM auditions

THERE was a huge turnout at the Skyz Metro FM auditions for presenters at Amakhosi Cultural Centre in Bulawayo yesterday with hundreds thronging the venue to try their luck.
The commercial radio station, which was licensed last month to broadcast from Bulawayo, is looking for 16 presenters, news anchors and DJs as they prepare to hit the airwaves at the end of August. The station will be available on 100.3FM.
Notable faces who attended the auditions, which will run up to Saturday, included club DJs, Mphoe, Mzoe, Kead Wikead and renowned writer - Fortune Taruvinga.
One of the Skyz Metro FM shareholders, Cont Mhlanga said he was thrilled by the high turnout.
"I'm so overwhelmed as I didn't think people would come in numbers. This makes my job more difficult as more people are interested in joining the station than I thought," Mhlanga said.
He said the station would only take the city's crime and hopefully have a few controversial faces such as Cyclone Ree (former Miss Zimbabwe Miss Personality) to liven things up.
"It'll be interesting to have controversial people like Cyclone Ree as many emotions are raised when her name is brought up. So if we have her on board, people will be eager to listen and find out what she's up to."
Socialites such as Babongile Sikhonjwa, Gilmore "Tee Moyo" and blogger, Charmaine Fynn among others have since landed jobs at the station. They're now working on their proposed programmes.
Skyz Metro FM chief executive officer, Qhubani Moyo was also impressed by the turnout, especially aspiring female presenters.
"Skyz Metro FM is a gender friendly station. Our programming will have a balance on coverage of issues to do with men and women. The presence of women at the auditions shows that women are now empowered, taking up such job opportunities," Moyo said.
Meanwhile, Breeze FM, which was also licensed last month to broadcast for the Victoria Falls community, will run auditions for presenters, news anchors and DJs next month on a date to be advised.
