A BULAWAYO man has been stalking and harassing a 19-year-old woman who looks like him, while claiming to be her biological father.

Sukoluhle Ndlovu has applied for a protection order against Mkhululi Msebele of Mzilikazi, whom she claimed was disturbing her peace and impairing her real father's dignity.

The pair appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate, Miss Evelyn Mashavakure.

Ndlovu told the court that she lives with her stepmother and her biological father, but Msebele has been going around telling people that she is his daughter.

"Your Worship, one day a fellow vendor came to me and told me that Msebele is going around claiming that I am his child and we look alike, while I am staying with my own father. Madam I do not know this man and right now he has caused great confusion in my life," she said.

"When my family elders ask him to come so that we can talk as a family he does not come, yet he continues to claim that I am his daughter. This is affecting me and my own father emotionally, as it is violating our dignity. Madam, I have had enough of this man; I want him to stay away from me and my family, and therefore I apply for a peace order."

Msebele, however, did not deny the allegations but told the court that Ndlovu came to him and told him that she was advised by her church leaders that he was her biological father.

"What she is saying is true but she is not telling the court the whole truth. She is the one who confronted me and actually questioned me whether I am her real father or not. She is the one who told me that her church leaders in one of the apostolic sects actually prophesied to her that she should consult her real father, and that I was actually the one," he said.

"Well, Your Worship, I said yes, I thought she wanted to know the truth but I am actually surprised that now it has all come to this."

While the reason for Msebele's actions are still unknown, Ndlovu had enough reasons to make Miss Mashavakure grant the peace order and advise the pair to take paternity tests.

"Msebele, as you can see, look at how your actions have actually disturbed this child. She was living peacefully with her parents and you have disturbed her. If you are saying this is your child, there are actually better ways to prove that. I suggest you go with her and take a paternity test, so that we may all know whether this is your child," she said.

"But, at the moment I am ordering you to stay away from Ndlovu and stop harassing her. I have granted a peace order and you are also ordered not to go around claiming to be her father."
