A council report has indicated that Bulawayio is continuing to face serious and increase in the water pipes leaks and bursting due to aged piping which needs replacement.

The Director of Engineering Services Simela Dube reported that in the month of August 2015, the Workshops received a total of 845 reports on water related jobs and attended to 653 leaks.

Leaks repaired on service lines totalled 621.

"The leaks were due to the continued ageing of the City's water reticulation pipes and on the service connections just before the meter most of the connections were in galvanised pipes which corroded quite easily," said Dube.

"To date there was a backlog of 540 water leaks. A total of 92 reports on burst pipes had been received in the month of August 2015 and had been all promptly attended to. Table 8 below illustrated the intensity of burst pipes per reservoir zone."
