Harare musician blasts Ndebeles live on ZiFM, apologises
28 Jan 2016 at 00:56hrs | Views
Freestyle sensation Ti Gonzi is careless with his rhymes and has issued an apology to the nation via his social media networking site, Facebook after realising his transcript of tribal slurs he dropped doing freestyle live on ZiFM radio on Friday night.
The remarks were tribalistic towards Bulawayo and the Ndebele people and soon after realising the great deal of harm he had done Ti Gonzi even immediately apologised on air.
In his apology he goes on to say that he is not a tribalistic person telling his utmost love for his beloved country Zimbabwe and its beautiful people.
The apology has since irked a huge social media splash with numerous opinions surfacing from his fans and ordinary people.
However, it appears Ti Gonzi was only making an honest exhibition of art and his lyrical flexibility that he later on perceived and accepted as tribal hence the immediate apology on radio.
On social media the issue has been overblown with adversaries of the chic rapper perhaps finding time to attack his person.
Recently, the rapper was caught in the middle of another storm when he was reportedly nabbed for stealing a bottle of whisky in one of Harare's shops.
Meanwhile, one cannot deny the simple fact that Ti Gonzi is on top of his game and form while it has always appeared to be a battle between of two cities, Harare and Bulawayo when it comes to Hip hop music.
To all those in the know, an apparent scenario almost brought business to a halt at the recently held hip-hop awards when rapper, Bris Mbada charged at Bulawayo sensation, and high flying rapper Calvin, for he thought the later did not deserve award for the best male hip –hop artist and best song of the year in which the duo were nominated.
Is this incident not a confirmation that there seems to be some beef between perceived kingmakers in H Town and Bulawayo, the city of kings?
Below is Ti Gonzi's apology.
I would like to apologize to my fans, family, friends,Zimbabwe and God for the lyrics that i chanted on Zii fm Sterio in a freestyle last friday night which sounded tribalistic on Bulawayo and the ndebele people. This comes after several complaints from people and its really paining me but honestly i have nothing against Bulawayo or its rappers and i truly had no intentions to diss the city.
In my lyrics i said, "Harare ndokumaWhites Bulawayo murikublues" and my intention was just an artistic way of playing with the words (Whites…Blues). However just after that i regreted because i knew how that sounded and quickly apologized on air. Please understand that iam a freestyle artist and freestyling refers to rapping unmeditated and unwritten lyirics. I have a lot of fans in Bulawayo and other cities and iam not a tribalistic person. Zimbabwe we are one, i have unreleased music with Guluva 7 and POY from blues and besides, the person i love the most in this world, my mother is ndebele. Iam not perfect ndirimunhuwo and will surely try and do better next time as i have realised the powerful influence that i now have.In a freestyle i have dissed Harare saying," Mbiri yangu yakwese kwese muharare kunge mapotholes" and noone said a thing coz iam a Hararian. This is bad cz i mentioned Bulawayo in that way. Iam an artist i can use my artistry to mock any MC eg Stunner, Maskiri or Mudiwa. I wish people would view it the same if i mention Calvin or any other Byo MC cz we are one at the end of the day but i will adjust. Lately,i have been on the spotlight from media which might seem like we are attention seekers creating publicity stunts but its untrue and i dont want stuff like this. I know the dangers and my focus now is my career and be a responsible good role model who unite, educate and entertain the people. Again, i apologize from the bottom of my heart.
