Hotels, lodges fully booked for Zanu-PF conference

Hotels and lodges in and around Masvingo are fully booked for the forthcoming Zanu-PF conference scheduled for December 13 to 17 at the Masvingo Showgrounds.

More than 7 000 delegates are expected to attend the conference, according to the party's provincial chairperson, Amasa Nenjana. Among those expected are President Robert Mugabe's bloated security team, local and international journalists, legislators, ministers as well as conference delegates and Zanu-PF members.

The usually sleepy city is expected to burst into life before and during the event, while vendors are expecting a windfall. A hotelier, confirmed that reservations had already been made and their facilities would be fully booked for the event.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Ammasi Nenjana has slammed ambitious individuals in the province who are pushing for provincial elections just after the party's annual conference next month.

Last month the party's provincial treasurer Killer Zivhu declared that he was ready to lead the province if elected but Nenjana said such statements were ill conceived. Presently, the Masvingo provincial executive is packed with loyalists of the G40 faction after a culling by the ruling party's secretary for the commissariat Saviour Kasukuwere.
