A BRITISH citizen of African origin pulled a shocker when he insulted a Harare magistrate.

Leroy Reece pleaded guilty to charges of "entering, be or remain in the country without a valid permit" when he appeared before Harare magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta.

Reece, 61, resides at House No. 4 John Cleige Road in Marblereign insulted magistrate Sabarauta after asking her why it matters for blacks living abroad to be considered immigrants when they visit Africa.

The State led by prosecutor Francesca Mukumbiri charged that Reece acted unlawfully when he stayed in the country since 2012 without valid documents.

Reece claimed he had lost his documents.

Asked why he committed the offence, Reece then said:

"The law of the land requires me to go wherever I want as long as I am not committing any crime. Why would a black man coming to Africa be considered an immigrant?" asked Reece.

Magistrate Sabarauta interjected: "That is what the law requires for you to produce valid documents."

"Do not be silly. These laws were instituted by the whites," replied Reece.

Magistrate Sabarauta remanded Reece in custody and rolled the matter to today for sentencing.
