President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been installed as the Chancellor for Lupane State University (LSU) during the occasion of the institution's 9th graduation ceremony in Lupane.
The event that preceded the graduation ceremony saw President Mnangagwa being accorded his status as the Chancellor of the university in what the institution's representatives described as the dawn of a new era that has the potential to take LSU to a higher level.
In giving his inaugural address as Chancellor, President Mnangagwa described LSU as having a great potential to be a game changer in the region.
He further challenged the institution to move away from the comfort zone and become relevant to the needs of the modern society.
President Mnangagwa also took the opportunity to challenge institutions of higher learning to produce graduates that can pioneer community development.
As part of ensuring that it reaches its optimum potential, LSU was called upon to seek strategic partnerships that can address the challenges affecting the institution.
Meanwhile, 872 graduands from the three faculties of LSU were capped during the graduation ceremony.
The graduands, who were capped by President Mnangagwa, consisted of 172 from the three faculties who were graduating with post-graduate degrees that were inclusive of 30 masters of social science in development studies.
Thirty-two from the faculty of agricultural sciences, 236 from the faculty of humanities and social sciences and 359 from the faculty of commerce graduated with undergraduate degrees while 73 received various university diplomas.
Speaking during the ceremony, LSU Vice Chancellor Professor Pardon Kuipa paid tribute to the government for providing necessary funds for the completion of various projects at the institution.
He further revealed that LSU was determined to play a key role in the country's industrialisation agenda.
Graduates were challenged to move towards starting their own small to medium enterprises as part of efforts to create employment for the nation.
