Harare Magistrate Victoria Mashamba on Monday sentenced two residents Shadreck Asani Daniel Shingirayi to serve 30 months in prison and suspended 12 months.
The pair was convicted for committing public violence after they allegedly participated in the January 14 #ShutdownZimbabwe protests.
They join the number of residents who are being convicted and sentenced all over the country. Last week the court sentenced former ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Chairperson Dick Mafios for inciting public violence during the protests.
Zimbabwe Law Society has condemned the mass trail and treatment of the accused person by the courts. To show their displeasure, lawyers marched to the Constitutional Court last week and handed over a petition the Chairperson of the Judiciary Services Commission Justice Luke Malaba.
Meanwhile two members of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Moenda Mbera and Obson Chere appeared in Goromonzi court on Monday for routine remand.
Mbera Chere represented by Doug Coltart and Lorretta Makumbe who are members of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
