The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched formal investigations into social media activist Majaira Jairosi over allegations of drafting and circulating misleading police statements online.
In a statement, the ZRP said the content attributed to Jairosi is being presented in a way that could mislead the public into believing it originates from official police channels.
Authorities warned that such actions have the potential to cause unnecessary alarm, create confusion, and ultimately undermine public confidence in official communication platforms.
The police confirmed that they have since lodged a formal complaint with X, seeking intervention to curb the spread of what they described as misleading content.
The complaint also calls for enforcement of the platform's policies on misinformation and impersonation.
The ZRP urged members of the public to rely strictly on verified and official police communication channels for accurate information.
"Investigations into the matter are ongoing and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law," the police said.
