Ambitious Eastern Region Soccer League side African Mineral Ventures (AMV) has acquired the Manica Diamonds franchise, in a development expected to reshape the struggling club's future.
The takeover comes amid severe financial difficulties at Manica Diamonds, with players reportedly going four months without salaries and still owed signing-on fees dating back to last season.
Sources familiar with the deal said the agreement between AMV and Manica Diamonds was finalised on Wednesday, with an official announcement expected during a team training session at Chisamba Ground on Thursday afternoon.
AMV is set to assume control ahead of the club's away fixture against Triangle FC this weekend, although the team will continue playing under the Manica Diamonds name until mid-season, retaining its current squad.
An insider said AMV's Eastern Region Soccer League coach, Cliffton Kadungurira, is expected to take over as head coach of the franchise, bringing along his technical team as part of the restructuring.
Manica Diamonds have endured a difficult campaign, currently sitting bottom of the league table with just one point and among five teams yet to record a win this season, alongside FC Hunters, Agama FC, TelOne FC and Highlanders FC.
The restructuring effort is also expected to include financial intervention, with Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company reportedly pledging to settle outstanding player salaries and signing-on fees as part of the new arrangement with AMV.
The takeover is viewed as a bid to stabilise the club both on and off the pitch as it attempts to revive its fortunes in the league.
