Three men from Emganwini suburb in Bulawayo have appeared in court facing robbery charges after allegedly attacking and robbing a woman on a secluded road.
Brendon Goromonzi (22), Sibangani Kula (27) and Brain Mvere (21) appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube. The trio was remanded in custody to April 28, pending a medical report.
Prosecutor Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the incident occurred on April 11, 2026, at around 9PM along a dusty road near vegetable gardens by the councillor's offices in Emganwini.
According to the State, the accused allegedly hid in tall grass before targeting the complainant, Cathrine Dube, as she walked past. The court heard that Goromonzi emerged from the roadside, grabbed Dube by the jacket and struck her twice on the upper right eye, before repeatedly hitting her on the head with a brick.
It is alleged that after overpowering her, Goromonzi took her navy cap and handbag containing US$22 and ZAR10, before handing the items to his accomplices. The three then fled the scene.
Dube reportedly ran towards nearby houses shouting for help, prompting residents to respond. One resident managed to apprehend one of the suspects and handed him over to police.
Investigations led to the arrest of the other two accused persons after Goromonzi implicated them. Kula allegedly later led police to a nearby maize field where he claimed to have dumped the empty handbag, although nothing was recovered.
The matter is expected to return to court later this month as investigations continue.
