Yesterday was not a good day for Sungura giant Alick Macheso as rumours were awash that he had died.
The Daily News offices received a number of calls from fans trying to verify the rumour. However, Macheso's deputy manager Jethro Machanja dismissed the rumours.
"I am not surprised as we have been receiving similar calls, izvezvi mafoni ari kungorira. He is actually sleeping right now. I will call you when I am with him," he said.
The Harare rumour mill was in overdrive with allegations that Cheso Power had died in a car accident. Zimbabweans often speculate on celebrities and politicians' deaths. This is a worrisome trend that affects those under such speculation.
In March, the social networking sites were filled with condolence messages over the alleged death of musician Progress Chipfumo. Chipfumo had not been feeling well and his silence triggered the nasty rumours. Chipfumo is alive and has been doing shows for some time now.
