President Robert Mugabe left the capital this Thursday afternoon for Lusaka Zambia where he will officially open the 86th edition of the Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show.
Mugabe is accompanied by the First Lady, Grace Mugabe, Agriculture Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Minister Dr Joseph Made and the Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade, Mike Bimha.
Mugabe was seen off at the Harare International Airport by Joice Mujuru, Defence Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa, State Security Minister, Sydney Sekeramayi, Media, Information and Publicity Minister, Webster Shamu, the Deputy Minister of Public Works, Senator Aguy Georgias and service chiefs, Lt-General Valerio Sibanda, Deputy Commissioner General Levi Sibanda, Air Marshal Perence Shiri and Rtd Major-General Paradzai Zimondi.
Minister Made said Zimbabwe and Zambia share common interests in the agricultural sector and that Zimbabwe would want to learn more on what Zambia is doing in livestock production and seed production.
Zimbabwe was forced to import maize seed for two years at the inception of the land reform programme but several indigenous farmers are now playing a big role in the sector in recent years.
Deputy Minister Bimha said 21 Zimbabwean companies are participating in the Zimbabwe agriculture and commercial showcase.
They are involved in seed production, timber, garden tools and agricultural equipment manufacture, transformers, canned fruit and vegetables, production of plastics, leather wear and agrochemicals.
The Zambian Leader, Dr Michael Chilufya Sata who was on a state visit in Zimbabwe in April this year officially opened the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo, demonstrating the warm brotherly ties between the two neighbouring countries.
