Councilors from the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T and MDC Alliance voted together on Monday to elect Gwanda Ward 4 Cllr. Njabulo Siziba as the new Gwanda Mayor.
His Worship Siziba replaces expelled Mayor Jastone Mazhale who is the MDC Alliance Provincial Secretary for policy and research mayor.
The election results saw Siziba beat the ZANU PF candidate Albert Ndlovu who lost 5-4.
An MDC-T official who attended to election told this publication that the party had instructed its Councilors to vote for an MDC-T candidate in the Alliance to block the Mayoral position being taken by ZANU PF.
Commenting on the results, MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende said, "Congrats to our remaining Cllrs in Gwanda for defeating the Zanu-PF backed Mwonzora rebellion team. We secured the Mayorship against all the odds. Thanks to our Provincial Leadership and our National Local Gvt Secretary Hon Zvidzai."
