Bulawayo police are currently investigating a case of sudden death involving a 29-year-old man named Winford Nyoni from Mahatshula North.
Nyoni passed away at his girlfriend's residential flat in the Central Business Centre. The incident, which occurred on September 20, 2023, has been confirmed by Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube.
According to Inspector Ncube, Nyoni had a history of epilepsy. On the fateful day, Nyoni arrived at his girlfriend's residence, who is a 25-year-old adult, for a sleepover. He appeared to be drunk at the time. After having supper, they spread blankets on the floor and slept together.
The following morning, at around 9 a.m. on September 21, 2023, the girlfriend left for work, leaving Nyoni in the blankets while he played games on his cellphone. During the day, she attempted to contact Nyoni through calls and messages but received no response. Concerned, she returned home around 3 p.m. and found the bedroom door partially closed. Upon entering, she discovered Nyoni lying on the floor, facing downwards and unresponsive.
Despite her attempts to wake him, she realized that Nyoni had passed away. The girlfriend promptly reported the situation to the police. Nyoni showed no visible injuries, and it was noted that he had a history of epilepsy but had never sought medical attention for the condition.
Nyoni's body was transported to the United Bulawayo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Inspector Ncube emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention when feeling unwell and encouraged the public to do so.
