HARARE – The Meteorological Services Department (MSD), in collaboration with the Civil Protection Unit, has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rains expected to affect several parts of Zimbabwe from Wednesday, November 5, through Friday.

According to the MSD, a thick cloud system is approaching Zimbabwe’s western borders from Botswana and is expected to combine with moisture from the southeast, resulting in significant rainfall and strong winds.

“This will result in heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm, accompanied by lightning and strong winds,” the department said. Affected areas include the northern parts of Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Manicaland, and Harare Metropolitan provinces.

The department warned of potential flash floods in flood-prone areas and river basins. It also cautioned motorists about slippery roads and reduced visibility due to rainfall, urging increased braking distances and heightened caution.

“There may also be fallen trees and power lines,” the MSD added. “The public is advised to take precautionary measures as guided by the Civil Protection Unit.”

Authorities are urging residents in affected areas to remain alert and follow official advisories to ensure safety during the forecast period.
