City Parking has issued a statement distancing itself from a tragic road traffic accident that occurred in Harare's central business district, following widespread speculation on social media linking the company to the incident.

The company said it was deeply saddened by the loss of life and extended condolences to the family of the deceased motorist.

"We are saddened to learn of the tragic accident that resulted in the loss of life of a motorist, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased," City Parking said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Robert Mugabe Road and Angwa Street and quickly became the subject of online debate, with some users alleging that City Parking had clamped or engaged with the vehicle before the crash.

City Parking dismissed the claims, stating that it had no interaction with the vehicle involved.

"City Parking had no involvement with the vehicle in question at the time of the incident. There was no outstanding transaction or interaction with our enforcement agents, and the vehicle had not been clamped by City Parking," the company said.

It added that the clarification was necessary to ensure accurate information reached the public and to prevent the spread of misinformation.

"We issue this statement to provide accurate information to our stakeholders and the public, and to respectfully correct the narrative surrounding this incident," the company said.

City Parking reiterated that its mandate is the orderly management of parking spaces in the city to improve traffic flow, support business activity and enhance public safety, while maintaining transparency and accountability in its operations.
