A 32-year-old Presbyterian church treasurer was found dead in Highfield on Monday, in a tragedy that has left his family and community in shock.

Taurai Mukotsanjera, who also served as the church's youth coordinator, was discovered near his home. Authorities attended the scene and his body was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Family members said Taurai left a note indicating that he had been struggling with financial difficulties amounting to about US$600.

His mother, Petronella Mukotsanjera (74), said she was devastated by the loss of her son.

"Taurai andirwadzisa," she said through tears. "I do not believe that it was just the debt that troubled him. If he had shared his problems, I would have done anything to help him."

Described as a devoted family man and active church member, Taurai was known in the community for his kindness and commitment to mentoring young people. He was particularly dedicated to caring for his seven-year-old daughter, who lives with a disability.

One church member described him as "loving and joyful," adding: "We have lost a bright spirit who cared deeply."

Neighbours said Taurai had recently been under pressure due to financial strain, including debts linked to family obligations and the need to repair his vehicle, which he used to transport children to school.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

He is survived by his wife and daughter.
