Meanwhile, police in the Midlands Province are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man who reportedly fell ill after consuming an excessive amount of illicit cane spirit in Mberengwa.

The deceased, Jenifani Simba, allegedly consumed the alcoholic substance at Vutika Business Centre before developing severe chest pains on November 1.

According to Inspector Mahoko, Simba subsequently informed his brother, Tinotemba Simba of Village Simba under Chief Maziofa, that he was experiencing chest pains.

His condition reportedly deteriorated during the early hours of November 2, and he died at approximately 5am.

Police have not confirmed whether the illicit brew was the direct cause of death.

Mahoko warned members of the public against consuming illicit substances, saying drug and substance abuse continued to pose serious risks to health and life.

"Once again, we are calling upon members of the public to desist from drug and substance abuse," he said.

The two incidents have prompted renewed police appeals for responsible behaviour, with authorities warning against violence and the consumption of potentially dangerous illicit substances.
